Discharge of Debt


What does it mean to discharge debts in bankruptcy? When a debt is ordered discharged, there is no further legal obligation to pay that debt. However, some debts are not subject to discharge. The most common examples are certain taxes, spousal and child support, and student loans. There are other categories of debts for which discharge may be denied.
